Welcome to the Weather 20/20 Intelligence Report on Wildcard weekend in the NFL!
An exceptionally frigid air mass is relentlessly surging southward, infiltrating the heartland of the United States. After I recorded the attached video, the Buffalo Bills game has been rescheduled to Monday afternoon. This decision stems from the imminent threat of Lake-Effect snow and the formidable force of gusty winds. So, this is a good call by the NFL to move it to Monday.
Meanwhile, for the loyal Kansas City Chiefs fans & spectators at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, a night of extreme cold awaits. The mercury will plunge to unprecedented depths, creating a harsh and challenging environment for both players and fans alike. It may be the coldest kickoff in Chiefs history and one of the top 7 in NFL history if it is 0° or lower at kickoff.
This report is an intermediate report as I felt it was important with these big games being impacted by this sudden winter change. Let’s take a look:
The prevailing weather pattern adheres faithfully to the Lezak's Recurring Cycle (LRC) and understanding the LRC helped Weather 20/20 predict this part of the pattern almost perfectly, as we will share in a minute, and our patent-pending model also predicted the recent Kansas City snow.
Right now, Arctic air is blasting south as you can see below in the forecast map valid Monday morning:
With this Arctic air blasting south, there will likely be some snow much farther south from Oklahoma to Tennessee in the next few days.
Here is some good news. The weather pattern will become favorable for a retreat of the Arctic air all the way back up into northern Canada, as show below:
